Children's Book Experimentation

So I've not updated since May, which means I'm gonna have to cram 6 months of updates into one here:

1. Not a student anymore. Graduated with a 2:1. Pretty pleased about that!
2. Got Student of the Year award for making a book for our course. Unexpected but cool!
3. Not living in England anymore. Moved to Scotland. Pretty pleased about that too!
4. Got a job. Not an illustration job but whatever, I can pay the rent so can't complain.
5. Sorted out my website. You can check it out here: ateepee.co.uk

AND here are some Children's Book pieces I've done recently as part of portfolio building. HAPPY NEW YEAR GUYS

Editorials: 2-5

A set of editorials I completed for my professionalism module. First piece doesn't have an accompanying article, but others do. Spoke to tutors who suggested a couple of tweaks, but have been told I've understood the concepts well and produced a good set of work so that's really nice to hear as I struggled with them to begin with!
Only 2 weeks left of my course. Scary stuff.

Nina and Nina Double Page Spread

Nino and Nina double page spread.
I like it, but it’s not enough work?
Mixed feelings about this one.

Heart of Darkness: Illustration Three

"afterwards he arose and went out- and the wilderness without a sound took him into its bosom again."
Final illustration! And only posted it on here like, 3 weeks late...

Heart of Darkness: Illustration Two

"he was useful because he had been instructed; and what he knew was this- that should the water in that transparent thing disappear, the evil spirit inside the boiler would get angry through the greatness of his thirst, and take a terrible vengeance."
Heart of Darkness illustration two!
More metaphors. Angry spirit = white man/imperialism as a whole, etc.
Slightly concerned the heart of gold sends the wrong message- was rather hoping it would signify greed, but not sure it reads that way. The shadow behind is meant to infer a darkness. And a few more fun metaphors. Yay.
Let me know what you think or if you can tell what I was going for? Thanks <3 font="">

Heart of Darkness: Illustration One

"Suddenly she opened her bared arms and threw them up rigid above her head, as though in an uncontrollable desire to touch the sky…"
Final Illustration for one of my Heart of Darkness folio society pieces.
Tried to be a little less literal with this.

Final Version! Had a chat with tutors today, they suggested I make a few changes so here they are :) Very happy with it. Feel like I might actually be getting somewhere!

Kurt Schwitters: The Three Suitcases

Another project. Kurt Schwitters, based on the story “The Three Suitcases”. Had to make a poster and a book illustration. These took a lifetime to do…
Brian liked them, especially the book illustration. I am surprised by this, but happy!

"The Dogs".

These are my final outcomes for our project called "The Dogs". We had to create 6 images (not showing the last one, it's terrible even if the tutors didn't agree!) using different techniques based on the subject matter of dogs. The first one is my absolute favourite, though I like the following two as well. All done in mixed media. Tutors seemed happy and called it a great set, which is a pretty good start to the year if you ask me :) Hopefully more to come soon!

Visual journal: Summer project part 1.

"Untamed".
A page form my visual journal summer project.
In response to the word "untamed"- got the idea partially from looking at my parents' garden when I was at home (sorry mum!).

I'm baaackk...

An update!
I know, I'm rubbish, I've not updated this blog in a while. Unfortunately, blogger hasn't been working too well on my laptop or phone recently, but I appear to have fixed the problem so it's update time :)
Here's the finished illustration, which is now available in my society6 shop here, if anyone is interested!
More to come shortly.
